Antonietta Collins
Antonietta Toni Collins is a Mexican American journalist. She is employed by ESPN and is a SportsCenter News Anchor. Since 2016, Collins has joined ESPN. She's the daughter of TV reporter Maria Antonieta Collins. Antonietta Collins is bilingual and has been so since her age of nine. The ability to speak two languages has helped her get her first job at Univision, Miami. She worked with national producers on programs like Nuestra Belleza Latina Premios Lo Nuestro Premios Juventud Primer Impacto. It was the CBS affiliate located in St. Petersburg hired her following this to become the sports reporter. Her move into Rio Grande Valley in 2009 to work as a reporter on the Spanish channel KNVO TV 48 Univision, and Fox2 News. Covering stories on trafficking in drugs and immigration on both sides of Mexico-Texas border, she worked as a reporter for newscasts at 5 p.m. Spanish newscast a reporter and later anchor of anchoring the 9 p.m. news in English and also an anchor for the at 10 p.m. Spanish newscast. She would also fill in at times as a news and sports anchor. Deportes 23 was Univision Dallas affiliate, where she was able to take on other duties. She also did segments on Major League Baseball's ALDS ALCS and World Series the Dallas Cowboys the NBA postseason as well as the Finals FC Dallas and the Dallas Stars. Also, she produced Univision 23's local sports channel Accion Deportiva Extra, on which she served as anchor. The show was made a sports anchor for Despierta America Deportes' morning show. The anchor also worked in similar roles as the show's magazine Primer Impacto and for UniMas Network's Contacto Deportivo. Antonietta's parents are originally of Veracruz Mexico. They eventually moved to Mexico City, where Antonietta Collins was born in November of 1985. She has an elder sister. In 1992, the family moved to Miami following the move out of Mexico in the US. Then, shortly afterward they separated, and, in 1995 Fabio Fajardo was remarried. He died from kidney cancer in 2006. The couple stayed at Canton Ohio with her older sister in the summertime, where she had been provided with a job. Antonietta was a senior high school student however, she was very aware of her career goals. She visited Mount Union University in order to find out if the school was suitable for her. As it turned out she was a fan of the university and they were offering the major she was looking for. She graduated from high school and enrolled into media school at the university. Her relationship lasted for a while with her instructor Mark Bergmann who was the manager of WRMU 91.1 FM of which she was a member. Mark's passion for journalism and confidence in herself instilled confidence in her. She in turn attempted to live up to the standards he set and to not fail him.
